Do I need to add liquid when cooking meat in a pressure cooker?
Adding liquid to an Instant Pot before cooking is a must. Unless stated otherwise in the recipe, it’s important to have a sufficient amount of liquid for the pressure to build. Examples of liquid you can use are water and thin broth.
Depending on the size of your Instant Pot, it is usually recommended to add 1 ½ to 2 ½ cups of liquid. To avoid that “burn” error from showing, make sure there is enough liquid in your pot.
If it does give you a “burn” message, it means that your dish is burning due to a lack of liquid. Or it means that all the liquid has been turned to steam and there’s not enough to make the Instant Pot come up to pressure.
Do I need to double the cook time in my electric pressure cooker if I double the recipe?
Doubling the recipe doesn’t require an increase in the cook time. However, the volume of ingredients in the pot affects the amount of time for the Instant Pot to come to pressure. So if you double the recipe, a longer amount of time is expected to build the pressure.
It’s not always necessary to increase cooking time, it just might take longer overall for the meal to cook because the pot takes longer to come to pressure.
Keep in mind that the cook time indicated in recipes does not always include the amount of time needed for the Instant Pot to come to pressure. But some recipes include the time it needs for the Instant Pot to build pressure before cooking.
