How long can I store ground chicken in the fridge?
Raw chicken should only be stored in the fridge for 2 days. This applies regardless if the chicken is ground, whole, or in pieces like wings, drumsticks, thighs, and breasts.
Signs that a chicken is already spoiled include a slimy texture, a grayish color, and a foul smell. It is also best to check the expiration date written on the package before cooking.
If you won’t use the chicken within that time (2-3 days from purchase) it’s best to put it in the freezer and then thaw it out when you are ready to cook it!
What can I use to marinate or season a chicken?
Ground chicken can be marinated with soy sauce. While a whole chicken, specifically bone-in and skin-on, can be pre-seasoned with salt. Seasoning a chicken with salt ahead of time makes the chicken much tastier and juicier than just sprinkling it a little on top right before cooking.
Other seasonings that go well with chicken include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, dried thyme, cayenne pepper, and fresh ground pepper.
You can also use things like dressings, try balsamic vinegar dressings, Italian dressing, and even honey mustard or bbq sauce!
